Zimbabwes Captain Encourages Team to Stay Positive After Series Loss in India

Vadodara, October 28 (Daily Kiran) : Josephine Nkomo, the captain of Zimbabwe’s women’s cricket team, has called on her players to maintain a positive mindset following a disappointing tour in India. Despite losing all six matches in the T20 and ODI series, Nkomo highlighted the commendable performances of certain players as a silver lining.

Reflecting on the lessons learned during the tour, Nkomo stated, “We need to stay more positive while playing. We should move forward with this intention and strive to improve every day.”

In the final match held at the BCA Stadium in Vadodara, Zimbabwe struggled, collapsing to just 131 runs in 39.5 overs. India, in response, comfortably chased down the target in 17 overs, winning by eight wickets. The Indian team completed a clean sweep in the ODI series, winning 3-0 after also taking the T20 series by the same margin.

India claimed the first T20 match by four wickets, followed by a nine-wicket victory in the second. The hosts dominated the third match, winning by 92 runs.

In the ODI series, India won the first match by nine wickets and followed up with a 121-run victory, securing an unassailable lead. Zimbabwe had a chance to salvage pride in the final match, but they fell short once again.

Despite the losses, Nkomo acknowledged the individual contributions of her players, particularly in bowling and fielding. “As you mentioned, there are many positives. Some of our players scored half-centuries. We bowled well, and our fielding was also impressive,” she remarked.

When asked about standout performers, Nkomo pointed to Nyasha Gwaradzimba’s excellent bowling, Beloved’s solid contributions with both bat and ball, and Modester Mupachikawa’s impressive work behind the stumps and with the bat. She noted that several players stepped up and took responsibility throughout the series.
