Perth, October 14 (Daily Kiran): Australia has suffered a double setback ahead of the first ODI against India in Perth, with leg-spinner Adam Zampa and wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis ruled out of the match. The team management has called up Matthew Kuhnemann and Josh Philippe as replacements.

Zampa has withdrawn from the squad due to family reasons, as his wife Harriet is in the final stages of pregnancy. Given the travel constraints from Perth, Zampa decided to remain in New South Wales. He is expected to rejoin the squad for the second and third ODIs in Adelaide and Sydney. The leg-spinner is also likely to feature in the upcoming five-match T20 series against India.
Meanwhile, Inglis is yet to recover from a calf injury sustained ahead of the New Zealand tour. He will miss both the Perth and Adelaide ODIs, but the team is optimistic about his return for the third ODI on October 25 in Sydney.
Kuhnemann Returns to ODI Squad
Matthew Kuhnemann will make a comeback to the ODI setup after nearly three years, having last featured in the Sri Lanka tour of 2022. The left-arm spinner has been part of several Australian squads in recent months, though he played only one T20 match during the winter. His recent domestic form has been impressive, with four wickets and a 56-run knock in three List A matches.
Philippe to Keep Wickets in Perth
Josh Philippe has been handed wicketkeeping duties for the Perth ODI, as Alex Carey remains in Adelaide to play the Sheffield Shield. Philippe last played an ODI for Australia during the 2021 West Indies tour. His current form in domestic cricket has earned him another opportunity to prove his mettle.
Managing Player Workload Ahead of Ashes
Australian selectors are also managing player workloads across formats in preparation for the Ashes series. Cameron Green will play the first two ODIs, but may be rested for the third to focus on red-ball preparation.
