Young players will get to learn: Shafali on WIPL

Christchurch, March 26 : A day after BCCI proposed a 6-team women’s IPL from 2023, India opener Shafali Verma on Saturday said “young players will get to learn a lot” from the full-fledged tournament. “It is a very good thing if there will be a 6-team Women’s IPL from next year. The young players will get to learn a lot,” said Verma. The existing 10 men’s IPL franchises will be given the first preference to buy the women’s IPL teams. When asked which is her favourite team, the 18-year-old named “Mumbai Indians”. Verma is with her India team in New Zealand, playing the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022. India, sitting in fifth position on points table, find themselves in a do-or-die situation, with a win or no result against South Africa on March 27 will take them into the knockout stages. But if the women in blue lose against the Proteas, they will crash out of the tournament. “Tomorrow is a very crucial game and all of us are ready for it. We will back each other in the batting and our bowling t is also doing well,” said Verma on the eve of the match. “Jhulan (Goswami) and Mithali (Raj) di have helped us youngsters a lot. We want to win this World Cup for them.” Verma has been in and out of the playing XI due to her lean phase. She was dropped from the line-up after India’s opening game against Pakistan, and returned for the side’s fifth match against Australia. Talking about watching her team from the sidelines, Verma said, “When I was out of the side, I was focusing on the process. I’m trying to improve physically and mentally. “I have worked on my game against the short ball. I am excited to face the pace bowling of South Africa tomorrow. Last game (against Bangladesh) gave me so much confidence. I was always looking to improve and had the confidence. I hope to give my best tomorrow.”
