Kolkata, February 25: A young man was shot dead by two assailants in the Golabari police station area of Howrah district, West Bengal, on Wednesday.
Police reported that they received information about the murder and quickly arrived at the scene to review nearby CCTV footage. The incident, which occurred around 4 AM on Tuesday, was captured on camera.
The victim has been identified as Shafiq Khan. According to the CCTV footage, he was surrounded by two individuals—one in front and one behind him. Suddenly, they drew firearms and shot him in the head. As he fell, they fired additional shots to ensure his death before fleeing the scene.
This incident has caused a stir in the local community. The Golabari police station has registered a case and initiated an investigation. A team has been formed to locate the suspects.
According to police sources, Shafiq Khan resided in Pilkhana, within the Golabari police station area, and was a local developer. He had gone out early in the morning to buy food from the roadside.
Local residents have identified the assailants as Mohammad Harul Khan and Rohit. CCTV footage shows one person talking to Shafiq face-to-face while the other stood behind him.
A senior officer from the Howrah city police stated, “Suddenly, one of the attackers pulled out a gun from behind and shot Shafiq in the head. As he fell, both assailants fired multiple shots before escaping. Shafiq was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A case has been registered, and we are actively searching for the murderers. The investigation is ongoing.”
Police are examining the CCTV footage to track down the criminals.
The victim’s family claims that the attack was motivated by an old dispute. A relative of the deceased told reporters, “There was a verbal altercation with Harul a long time ago, but there was no enmity. Harul brought another person with him and shot Shafiq.”
