Yogi Government Provides ₹873.58 Crore Aid to Farmers under Accident Welfare Scheme

Lucknow: The Chief Minister’s Kisan Accident Welfare Scheme has emerged as a strong social security shield for farmers and their families in Uttar Pradesh. Launched in 2019, the scheme has so far provided financial assistance to over 1,08,000 farmers, supporting them during times of crisis.

In line with the Chief Minister’s directives, the scheme is being fully digitised to ensure ease of implementation and increased transparency. This initiative not only offers financial support to farmers’ families in case of accidental death or disability but also contributes to the stability of the rural economy in the state.

Under the scheme, families of farmers who suffer accidental death or permanent disability receive up to ₹5 lakh as compensation. In the financial year 2025-26 alone, the Revenue Department has disbursed ₹873.58 crore, benefiting 18,145 farmers and their families.

Guided by the Chief Minister’s vision, the scheme was expanded in 2023-24 to include landless farmers and agricultural labourers. During that year, ₹944.72 crore was distributed to assist 23,821 farmers. Since its inception, the scheme has provided economic support to 1,08,098 beneficiaries, proving to be a vital social security net for farming families.

To ensure smooth and transparent operations, the Revenue Council is digitising the entire process with the help of the National Informatics Centre (NIC). A modern web portal and software are being developed, expected to be completed by February 2026. Once fully online, farmers will no longer need to visit tehsil or district offices repeatedly, reducing opportunities for corruption.

The portal will enable end-to-end digital processing—from application submission to direct transfer of funds into beneficiaries’ bank accounts. It will also include a dashboard for enhanced transparency and monitoring. This digital transformation reinforces the Yogi government’s commitment to supporting farmers through effective and transparent welfare measures.
