New Delhi, April 7 : on Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday said now with science and tech available to predict disasters it is human and agency coordination that requires to be advanced. Inaugurating a two-day annual conference on “Capacity Building for disaster response 2022”, organised by National Disaster Response Force here on Thursday, Shah also called upon the agencies to work in tandem to carry out rescue operations during such times. “The coordination between the agencies is the need of the hour to carry out relief and rescue operation on time at ground and for that capacity building will play a major role,” he said. He said due to technology and science, agencies now receive information well before disaster strikes in many cases, but to implement at ground level is totally dependent upon the agencies. He also appreciated the work being done by the relief agencies in recent times. “In 90s our approach was only to provide relief materials to the people who were affected due to disasters but today our agencies not only carried out relief and rescue operations but they have managed to save hundreds of lives,” he added. Shah said Prime Minister Modi started NDMA National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and NDMP National Disaster Management Plan, (NDMP) and we’re continuously working on providing relief in every sort of calamity that strikes in the country. “Till now 26 states and UTs have constituted SDRF which is good for the future to deal with natural calamity” he added. The conference has been convened to provide an opport ty to all the stakeholders (SDRF/CD/HG & Fire Services) to share their best practices, rectify the shortcoming and work to improve the response capabilities. The two-day conference will be attended by DsG/ADsG of all State/UTs of the SDRFs, Home Guards, Civil Defence & Fire Services. During the conference various agenda points raised were role of major stakeholders in different emergencies; strengthening of manpower and Infrastructure of SDRFs; road map for strengthening and capacity building of SDRFs, Civil Defence, Home Guards & Fire Services, Issues related to the Disaster Management Training, Good Practices adopted and way forward will be discussed The conference will also be utilised by the stake-holders for planning, organising and preparing for monsoon seasons.
