Womens Reservation Bill to Be Based on Population: Nishikant Dubey

New Delhi, April 17: The special session called to discuss the Women’s Reservation Bill has prompted reactions from ruling party MPs and ministers, who also targeted the opposition.

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju commented on the notification regarding the Women’s Reservation Bill, stating, “This is a process. We are currently amending the law. Since the previous law has not yet been implemented, a notification has been issued to initiate the implementation process.”

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey noted, “The bill passed in 2023 received support from Congress, DMK, TMC, and all other opposition parties. It was unanimously passed at that time. This is a bill that has already been passed. Priyanka Gandhi suggested that it should be applied to the current seats. However, the law states that it will be based on population. The current bill includes provisions for proportional representation. As the Home Minister mentioned yesterday, some seats in South India may also increase.”

BJP MP Kavita Patidar stated, “The amendments to the Women’s Reservation Bill and the initiation of the delimitation process will clarify everything when discussed. The Prime Minister and Home Minister clarified everything yesterday. I don’t think there is any confusion left in the public’s mind.”

Rajya Sabha MP Ujjwal Nikam expressed his heartfelt welcome for the government’s decision, affirming that women will receive 33% reservation. “Therefore, following the Prime Minister’s address, the Women’s Reservation Bill has been implemented. This is a positive and commendable step.”

BJP MP Rekha Sharma added, “The bill is currently under debate, and voting will take place. But if it is not implemented, on what basis will the voting occur, and how will we advance it in 2029? We know the opposition will support it, and we are confident that this bill will pass. We are certain of this because there is nothing negative from the government’s side. They have no ill intentions.”
