New Delhi, February 27: A positive and inspiring initiative is underway in Chamoli, Uttarakhand, focusing on women’s empowerment. Under the Prime Minister’s Skill Development Scheme, women are receiving vocational training aimed at making them self-reliant.
So far, over 200 women in the district have been trained in various trades. The training program includes comprehensive instruction in jute bag production, sewing, embroidery, handicrafts, and the creation of other useful products. Expert trainers are educating them about modern techniques, design, and quality standards to ensure their products meet market demands.
After completing their training, many women have joined self-help groups to work collectively, while others have started their small businesses independently. They are directly benefiting from the growing demand for jute bags and handmade products. Orders are now coming in from local markets as well as other regions, providing them with a steady income.
Training centers are also teaching women about product quality, attractive packaging, and marketing strategies. They are learning how to reach broader markets and establish direct contact with customers. This initiative is not only strengthening women’s economic status but also significantly boosting their confidence and social participation.
Beneficiary Sulochna Tiwari shared with a news agency, “This scheme has brought a significant change in our lives. We are becoming financially independent and actively contributing to our families.” She emphasized that while women were traditionally confined to home, this program allows them to step out and run their businesses, showcasing their talents to society.
