Idukki, April 5: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge stated on Sunday that a wave of change is sweeping through Kerala. He confidently predicted that the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) will form the government following the elections on April 9.
Kharge emphasized that change is imminent. He urged supporters to prepare, assuring them that with their backing, Congress will return to power. Following a significant victory in local body elections in Idukki, he noted that it is evident the people are leaning towards the UDF.
Addressing an election rally, Kharge forecasted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will not secure a single assembly seat. He claimed that the people of Kerala are now aware of the BJP’s communal and divisive tactics.
The Congress leader accused the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the BJP of having a secret understanding, stating they are two sides of the same coin. He remarked that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is following in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s footsteps.
Kharge pointed out that Kerala has always been a symbol of progressive thought, social justice, and education. However, he criticized the LDF’s governance over the past decade, claiming it has deviated from the path of progress.
He highlighted that the state’s debt has surged to ₹6 lakh crore, with an unemployment rate reaching 30%, the highest in the country. Many youths are being forced to migrate in search of jobs.
He alleged that the LDF government is mired in corruption scandals, ranging from gold smuggling to infrastructure development fraud, including the Sabarimala gold theft case and the Kochi Minerals financial deal.
Kharge stated that farmers, fishermen, small traders, and many others feel neglected. He noted that welfare schemes are either delayed or poorly implemented. He further asserted that rising debt, lack of vision in governance, and dwindling opportunities have pushed the state towards uncertainty and despair.
