New Delhi, August 8: The Indian cricket team faces a significant setback ahead of the Test series against Sri Lanka. Reports indicate that left-handed batsman Sai Sudharsan may also miss the series, following Jasprit Bumrah’s earlier withdrawal. Sudharsan injured his toe while playing against Sri Lanka A and is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
According to reports, Sudharsan has been ruled out of the Sri Lanka Test series. Doctors have advised him to take more time for biological healing. His medical report states that rehabilitation, strength conditioning, and cricket-specific loads should be gradually increased under strict supervision. This precaution aims to minimize the risk of re-injury and ensure long-term performance.
Selecting a replacement for Sudharsan poses a significant challenge for the selectors. Middle-order batsman Sarfaraz Khan is being considered as a potential option. The 28-year-old has played six Test matches for India, scoring 371 runs in 11 innings, including one century and three half-centuries, with a highest score of 150.
The Indian team is grappling with injury issues. Jasprit Bumrah is out of the Sri Lanka Test series due to a knee injury sustained during the ODI series against England. Aaqib Nabi has been chosen as his replacement. Additionally, Harshit Rana and Nitish Kumar Reddy are also sidelined with hamstring and quadriceps injuries, complicating India’s selection process further. Furthermore, Hardik Pandya and Varun Chakravarthy are dealing with various injuries and are currently undergoing recovery at the BCCI Centre of Excellence.
