MUMBAI — April 14, 2025 — As Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt celebrate their wedding anniversary and life as doting parents to baby Raha, an old anecdote shared by Ranbir has resurfaced — one that hilariously claims Alia isn’t technically his “first wife.”
In a light-hearted moment during an interview with Mashable India, the Animal actor recounted a bizarre fan encounter from his early years in the film industry. According to Ranbir, a female fan once arrived at his family bungalow in Mumbai with a pandit in tow and symbolically “married” the gate of his house.
“I wouldn’t say craziest as it sounds negative, but I remember in the early years there was a girl — I never met her — but my watchman told me she came with a pandit and married my gate,” Ranbir recalled. “There was some tika on the gate, some flowers… I was out of town at the time. I haven’t yet met my first wife, so I look forward to meeting you at some point,” he added, chuckling.
Alia’s Crush on Ranbir Turned Into a Real-Life Fairytale
While Ranbir dealt with quirky fan moments, Alia Bhatt was busy dreaming about her future with him — long before they started dating. The Gangubai Kathiawadi star has often admitted she had a longtime crush on Ranbir, even telling friends and family she’d end up with him.
In a past interview, Alia revealed, “When I was single after a very long time, my sister and friends kept saying, ‘You and Ranbir are going to be together.’ Then we had this flight where we were seated together. His seat was fixed later, but the vibe had already started. That’s where it all began — the rest is history.”
The couple officially began dating while working together on ‘Brahmāstra Part One: Shiva’, which marked a new chapter both on-screen and off. They tied the knot in an intimate ceremony at their Bandra home in 2022 and welcomed daughter Raha Kapoor in 2023.
