Kolakata Police’s Special Task Force (STF) conducted extensive raids across several areas in and around Kolkata, leading to the arrest of five individuals, including a woman, involved in drug trafficking. Over drugs worth more than Rs 1 crore have been seized in these operations. The STF continues to investigate the case further.
According to police sources, on Wednesday, the STF team raided Canal West Road under the Ultadanga police station in North Kolkata and arrested 42-year-old Asma Khatun Peyada, a resident of the area. Authorities recovered 1.325 kilograms of heroin from her possession. She will be presented before the court, where police will seek custody for further interrogation.
In a related development, on January 25, four individuals were arrested near the Belgharia Expressway under Nimta police station in North 24 Parganas district, specifically from the Doctor Bagan area. During the search, the police seized a total of 3 kilograms of an adulterant powder used to increase heroin potency and 410 grams of heroin. A vehicle was also confiscated in connection with the arrests.
The arrested persons have been identified as Mohammad Rafiq (55) from Narkeldanga, North Kolkata; Abhishek Karmakar (30) from Dattapukur, North 24 Parganas; Hasim Ali (30) from Barasat, North 24 Parganas; and Vrindaban Das Bairagya (34) from Kaliganj, Nadia district.
A senior officer of the West Bengal STF stated that with the latest arrest, the total number of individuals apprehended in this case has reached five. The estimated market value of the seized narcotics exceeds Rs 1 crore. The investigation is ongoing, and police will continue questioning the suspects to uncover the drug trafficking network and identify other involved parties.
