Weapons and Posters of Lashkar-e-Taiba Seized in Srinagar; Two Arrested

Srinagar, May 12: The Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested two individuals during a checkpoint operation in the Babadem area of Srinagar. Authorities recovered weapons, ammunition, and posters of Lashkar-e-Taiba from their possession. A senior police official confirmed that an FIR has been filed under relevant sections of the UAPA and the Arms Act, with further investigations underway.

The Kashmir-based Economic Offenses Wing of the Jammu and Kashmir Crime Branch has filed three separate cases against the accused, Abdul Majid Mir. He is alleged to have defrauded several individuals by promising them government jobs in various departments and financial institutions. Preliminary investigations revealed that Mir collected substantial amounts from victims by falsely assuring them of employment.

To gain the victims’ trust, the accused prepared and distributed fake appointment letters from government agencies and Jammu and Kashmir Bank. His actions are punishable under relevant sections of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC), the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and the Indian Justice Code (BNS).

The Jammu and Kashmir Police have stated that the Crime Branch had previously registered two cases against Abdul Majid Mir. Authorities urged the public to remain vigilant against financial fraudsters and report any such incidents directly to the SSP EOW Kashmir (Crime Branch Jammu and Kashmir).

In a related effort, the Sopore Police have taken significant action under the 100-day Drug-Free Jammu and Kashmir campaign, which began on April 11. The police are actively conducting anti-drug operations, awareness programs, and enforcement actions to combat drug trafficking and abuse in the district. Sopore Police have registered 22 FIRs under the NDPS Act and arrested 23 drug traffickers involved in related activities.
