New Delhi, July 30: Voting for the by-elections in Bankipur, Bihar, Datia, Madhya Pradesh, and Manjalpur, Gujarat commenced on Thursday under extensive security arrangements.
The Election Commission and local authorities have implemented detailed measures to ensure a smooth and peaceful voting process.
Before voting began, election officials supervised the distribution of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and other election materials to polling staff at designated centers. Subsequently, the polling teams departed for their respective booths with the necessary equipment to facilitate an orderly voting process.
Officials stated that all necessary preparations have been completed to guarantee free, fair, and transparent elections. Security has been heightened across all three constituencies, and voting is being conducted in accordance with guidelines set by the Election Commission.
The much-anticipated by-elections saw campaigning conclude on July 28, with political parties making final efforts to attract voters through rallies, roadshows, and extensive outreach programs.
In the urban area of Bankipur, Bihar, the contest is particularly noteworthy. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded Neeraj Kumar Sinha, a leader from its youth wing, while the Jan Suraj Party (JSP) has nominated political strategist-turned-politician Prashant Kishor.
The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has entered the fray with Rekha Gupta as its candidate, setting the stage for a competitive triangular contest.
The need for a by-election in Bankipur arose after five-time MLA and BJP national president Nitin Nabin was elected to the Rajya Sabha in April, leaving the assembly seat vacant.
In the Datia constituency of Madhya Pradesh, the BJP has nominated Ashutosh Tiwari, who is contesting his first assembly election, while the Congress has once again fielded veteran leader Kunwar Ghanshyam Singh, who is running for the seventh time from this seat.
The Datia assembly seat became vacant on April 2 after Congress MLA Rajendra Bharti was disqualified under Section 8 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, following his conviction in a bank fraud case.
Meanwhile, voting is also taking place in Manjalpur, Gujarat, where the seat became vacant after the death of senior BJP MLA Yogesh Patel. The BJP has nominated Satish Patel for the by-election, while the Congress has put forward former minister Bhikhabhai Rabari, setting the stage for a direct electoral contest between the two parties.
