Vinesh Phogat Vows to Continue Fighting Despite Notice from Wrestling Federation of India

New Delhi, May 10: Renowned wrestler Vinesh Phogat has indicated her determination to continue her fight, despite receiving a show-cause notice from the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI).

In a recent social media post, Vinesh expressed, “Life feels like it’s caught in a deep whirlpool. The world keeps looking for flaws in my character. Life has always kept your head held high. No sword has the strength to bend it.” She remains resolute in her decision to persevere through this setback.

The WFI issued a show-cause notice to Vinesh, citing allegations of misconduct and violations of anti-doping regulations. As a result, she has been declared ineligible to participate in domestic tournaments until June 26.

The 15-page notice claims that Vinesh failed to fulfill the mandatory six-month notice period required for athletes returning from retirement under United World Wrestling’s anti-doping rules. This means she will have to wait before making her return to wrestling, especially ahead of the World Championships.

The notice further states that Vinesh’s actions during the Paris Olympic controversy have permanently damaged the reputation of Indian wrestling. It alleges violations of the WFI’s constitution, UWW international wrestling rules, and anti-doping guidelines.

Vinesh had aimed to make her comeback at the National Open Ranking event starting this Sunday in Gonda. She had previously retired after being disqualified due to weight issues during the finals of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Recently, Vinesh announced her return to wrestling to win medals for the country on the global stage and to fulfill her unachieved dreams. However, she will now have to wait for her opportunity.
