Mumbai, May 9: Vijay Deverakonda, a superstar of the South Indian film industry, has become an inspiration for millions of youth. However, few know that before achieving success, he set a personal deadline. If he did not gain recognition in acting by a certain age, he would abandon his dream. This fear and pressure motivated him to work tirelessly, and today he reigns over millions of hearts.
Born on May 9, 1989, in Hyderabad to a Telugu family, Vijay’s father, Govardhan Rao, was involved in television serials, while his mother, Madhavi, managed the household. Vijay had a normal childhood and completed his early education at a boarding school in Puttaparthi. He later finished his studies in Hyderabad. Despite excelling academically, Vijay was always drawn to films and acting. His family hoped he would pursue a stable job after his education, but Vijay chose to follow his dream of acting.
Vijay began his career in 2011 with the film “Nuvvila.” Unfortunately, it did not perform well at the box office. He appeared in “Life Is Beautiful,” but this film also failed to bring him significant recognition. After two consecutive flops, Vijay faced a long dry spell without work. For nearly two years, he remained idle at home, causing concern among his family. They began advising him to abandon acting for a more secure path, with his sister even sending him MBA application forms.
During this challenging period, Vijay set a personal deadline. He decided that if he did not achieve success by a certain age, he would give up on his film aspirations. In an interview, he mentioned that he did not want to recall his struggles, as it frightened him. With nothing to lose, he dedicated all his energy to realizing his dream.
Fortune finally smiled upon Vijay. In 2015, the film “Yevadu Subrahmanyam” was released, and his performance was well-received. The 2016 film “Pelli Chupulu” changed his life. Made on a low budget, it became a massive hit and established Vijay as a lead actor. However, true stardom came with the 2017 film “Arjun Reddy,” where he portrayed an angry and heartbroken surgeon. The film was a box office sensation, catapulting Vijay to superstardom overnight.
For his role in “Arjun Reddy,” Vijay received the Filmfare Award for Best Actor. He subsequently starred in popular films like “Geetha Govindam,” “Mahanati,” “Taxiwala,” and “Dear Comrade,” which resonated with the youth. He also made his Bollywood debut with the film “Liger,” solidifying his place in the hearts of audiences.
Beyond films, Vijay launched his fashion brand “Rowdy Wear” and established his production company. He is also actively involved in social work, having helped many in need. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he provided assistance to thousands of families.
