Mumbai, May 8: Actress Vidya Balan shared an emotional note on Thursday, revealing that she watched her long-delayed film “The Last Tenant” for the first time on Wednesday. The film, which features the late actor Irrfan Khan, was initially shot years ago but was released on April 29, 2026, to commemorate Irrfan’s sixth death anniversary.
In her Instagram post, Vidya reminisced about a challenging phase in her career when she faced setbacks, even being labeled as a “jinx.” She wrote, “I watched ‘The Last Tenant’ for the first time on Wednesday night, despite having filmed it nearly 25 years ago. The movie never saw a release back then, coinciding with a period in my career where projects I was involved in often fell through. My first Malayalam film, ‘Chakram,’ was also shelved. Over three years, I was removed from about a dozen films.”
Vidya admitted that she had buried those painful memories deep within herself to move forward in life. She noted, “Last week, I received a message from director Sarthak Dasgupta, informing me that the film was now available on YouTube. This brought back a fond memory. I had called my sister Priya during the shoot, excitedly telling her that I was working with Irrfan Khan.”
She continued, “Even then, I felt he was the most natural actor, and watching the film again brought back that same feeling. His performances were never contrived.”
The actress expressed her regret over not being able to collaborate with Irrfan on more projects after his passing, noting that there were several opportunities that did not materialize. However, she finds solace in having “The Last Tenant” to remember him by. She extended her gratitude to Sarthak Dasgupta for bringing the film to light.
