Chandigarh, September 4 (Daily Kiran) : Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, who also serves as the Chancellor of Punjab University, visited the campus in Chandigarh on September 4. During his visit, he inaugurated state-of-the-art analytical instruments and an advanced equipment facility within the Central Instrumentation Laboratory.
Radhakrishnan also launched the Punjab University Technology Innovation Forum (PU-TIF), which aims to bolster the academic and applied research ecosystem. This initiative will provide researchers, innovators, and industry professionals with access to advanced analytical tools, incubation support, and entrepreneurial assistance.
In his address, Radhakrishnan reflected on the university’s distinguished legacy since its establishment in 1882. He highlighted its significant contributions to nation-building through generations of leaders, jurists, scientists, athletes, and public servants.
He noted the transformative changes in India’s higher education and scientific research landscape under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. Radhakrishnan remarked that India is rapidly becoming a global destination for quality education, research, and innovation.
The Vice President emphasized that the introduction of five advanced scientific instruments—an Atomic Force Microscope, Raman Spectrometer, DNA Sequencer, Flow Cytometer, and FTIR Spectrometer—will significantly enhance the university’s research capabilities in fields such as nanotechnology, materials science, environmental science, and genomics.
Highlighting the importance of innovation, he stated that the Bio-NEST initiative represents a new institutional framework under Section 8, aimed at promoting transformative research, entrepreneurship, and technology development. Radhakrishnan stressed that innovation thrives when academia, industry, incubators, and investors collaborate effectively.
In his message to young researchers, he encouraged them to pursue purposeful science, urging them to remain resilient despite setbacks and to develop innovations that meet inclusive and real societal needs. He emphasized that research should have a meaningful impact on society, calling on researchers and students to direct their efforts toward research that benefits the broader community.
