New Delhi, May 16: Vice President CP Radhakrishnan is set to visit Sikkim on Saturday. He will attend the Statehood Day celebrations in Gangtok as the chief guest. This marks his first visit to Sikkim since taking office as Vice President.
Previously, Sikkim was in the spotlight when Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Gangtok last month to commemorate the state’s 50th anniversary.
On April 27-28, 2026, PM Modi also toured Sikkim, where he inaugurated and laid the foundation for various development projects worth approximately ₹4,000 crores. He enjoyed a football session with local youth in Gangtok during this visit.
Sharing photos from the football session on social media, PM Modi wrote, “A football morning in Gangtok! We learned, played, celebrated, and most importantly, enjoyed the game.”
In another post, he expressed, “Playing football with my little friends in Gangtok is a unique joy!”
The Prime Minister also led a two-kilometer cultural road journey, where enthusiastic residents lined the streets to greet him, waving the national flag and dressed in traditional attire.
He engaged in “enlightening conversations” with Padma awardees and several prominent figures from various fields.
In a post on social media, PM Modi shared details of the meeting, stating that it was wonderful to discuss various issues with attendees. He emphasized the importance of connecting with individuals who have made significant contributions across diverse sectors.
According to officials, the dialogue included Padma award winners, social workers, artists, educators, athletes, and others recognized for their service and excellence in their respective fields.
