Thiruvananthapuram, May 18: The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) government in Kerala is set to take the oath of office on Monday. VD Satheesan will be sworn in as Chief Minister. On this occasion, Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge stated that this victory is unprecedented, marking a grand celebration ahead.
Political activity is buzzing in Thiruvananthapuram ahead of the swearing-in ceremony. UDF workers are frequently visiting the residence of senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala. Party leaders are also gathering at the home of Congress leader K.C. Venugopal. Additionally, the head of the Jacobite Syrian Christian Church visited the Cantonment House to congratulate VD Satheesan before the ceremony. The newly elected government members are departing for Kerala to attend the swearing-in event.
The new government will assume office with a 21-member cabinet, including the Chief Minister. Political sources suggest that Congress is likely to secure 11 ministerial positions, including that of the Chief Minister.
On Monday, the ceremony is expected to see the presence of Congress MPs Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and several senior party leaders, along with Chief Ministers from Congress-ruled states.
Before departing for Thiruvananthapuram from Bengaluru, Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge spoke to the media, stating, “VD Satheesan and all cabinet ministers will take the oath together. Today, we are going to celebrate a grand occasion. This is an unprecedented victory. Such a large majority has never been seen before. It is the first time such a massive mandate has been received. Everyone is happy, which is why we are all going together.”
A supporter at the swearing-in ceremony expressed, “We are very happy. We arrived here on Sunday and stayed overnight. We are standing here waiting, and we are very happy. It is a beautiful day. The people of Kerala are delighted.”
