VCK Considers Joining TVK Cabinet Amid Speculations of Ministerial Positions

Chennai, May 20: Thol Thirumavalavan, the president of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), indicated on Wednesday that his party is contemplating a new invitation from the Tamilaga Vetrikazhagam (TVK) to join the cabinet. This comes amid growing speculation that VCK may soon secure ministerial positions within the government.

This development follows VCK’s earlier statement asserting that its support for the Vijay government was external, aimed solely at ensuring political stability and preventing any potential interference from the BJP-led central government during the formation process.

Addressing reporters, Thirumavalavan mentioned that the TVK leadership has informed him that rebel AIADMK legislators will not be included in the cabinet.

This clarification is crucial, as VCK’s leader had previously warned that the party would be compelled to withdraw its support if rebel AIADMK leaders were granted cabinet positions.

He expressed gratitude towards Minister Adhav Arjun for publicly reiterating VCK’s desire to be included in the government framework.

Thirumavalavan recalled that during the launch of the book titled “Ellorukkumana Thalaivar Ambedkar,” TVK president Vijay had invited VCK to politically collaborate.

According to him, VCK views that statement as a significant political signal. However, the electoral circumstances at that time prevented the party from joining the TVK coalition.

On May 8, VCK held a virtual high-level committee meeting, where most senior officials reportedly supported joining the government.

Thirumavalavan stated, “We did not demand ministerial positions as a condition for support. Despite winning only two seats, we provided unconditional support for government formation.”

He emphasized that participation in governance is also part of the party’s political vision and reiterated that VCK had supported the TVK government unconditionally. He added that before making a final decision regarding cabinet inclusion, the party would engage in extensive discussions with its senior officials, including the general secretary, treasurer, and chief secretary.
