Ranchi, September 28 (Daily Kiran) : Late Sunday night, vandals in the Harmu area of Ranchi defaced the statue of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, attempting to damage it further. Upon learning of the incident, several leaders and activists from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rushed to the scene to express their outrage.
The party workers cleaned the statue with fresh water and adorned it with garlands. Following this, they staged a protest demanding immediate action against those responsible for the act. Former Rajya Sabha MP and BJP’s former state president, Deepak Prakash, stated that Dr. Mukherjee’s life and ideals, dedicated to India’s integrity and unity, serve as an inspiration for all.
Prakash condemned the attempt to damage the statue as extremely unfortunate and disgraceful. He urged the state government to swiftly arrest the culprits and ensure strict action against them, emphasizing that no compromise would be acceptable when it comes to honoring national leaders.
Patrul Shahdev, the chief spokesperson for Jharkhand BJP, also strongly condemned the incident. He remarked that Dr. Mukherjee was among the great national leaders who sacrificed their lives for the unity and integrity of the country. Defacing his statue is not merely an insult to the statue itself but a disregard for his ideals and the spirit of national consciousness.
Shahdev asserted that such acts cannot erase Dr. Mukherjee’s thoughts. He emphasized that in a democracy, ideas should be contested with ideas, not through acts of vandalism. He also raised concerns about law and order, urging police to review CCTV footage from the area to identify the individuals involved and take legal action against them.
In the aftermath of the incident, BJP workers and local residents have called on law enforcement and the administration to thoroughly investigate the CCTV footage to identify the perpetrators and act swiftly.
