Uttarkashi, April 28: In a significant operation aimed at ensuring the safety and smoothness of the Char Dham Yatra, Uttarkashi police have successfully apprehended a drug trafficker. During an intensive checking campaign, authorities seized 794.50 grams of illegal charas from the suspect. The estimated value of the confiscated charas is approximately ₹1.60 lakh.
Under the direction of Superintendent of Police Kamlesh Upadhyay, a zero-tolerance policy against drugs and illegal activities is being strictly enforced in the district. With the Char Dham Yatra season underway, security measures along travel routes have been intensified, and special attention is being given to drug traffickers.
On the evening of April 27, a joint team from the Kotwali police and the Special Operations Group (SOG), supervised by Deputy Superintendent of Police Janak Singh Panwar, conducted an operation near the Kuteti Devi Temple on Manpur Road. Acting on accurate information, the team surrounded the area and stopped a suspicious Artika car (UK07BL 9719) for inspection. During the search, 794.50 grams of illegal charas was found in the possession of the vehicle’s occupant, Vijay Singh (38). The police arrested the suspect on the spot.
In this regard, the police have registered a case against the accused under sections 8/20/60 of the NDPS Act. An investigation into the suspect’s criminal history is ongoing, and the process of presenting him in court is underway.
Police officials emphasize that thousands of pilgrims pass through Uttarkashi during the Char Dham Yatra, making the security of travel routes a top priority. To address this, continuous operations against drug trafficking and suspicious activities are being conducted.
According to data released by Uttarkashi police, 12 cases have been registered in 2026 as part of the anti-drug campaign, leading to the arrest of 16 traffickers. During this period, approximately 6.794 kilograms of charas, valued at around ₹13.5 lakh, have been seized. Additionally, 18 grams of smack, worth approximately ₹5.4 lakh, have also been confiscated. Action has been taken against traffickers under the Gangster Act as well.
The operation involved significant contributions from Sub-Inspector Jagat Singh, Head Constable Ranjit, Constables Sunil Mathani, Deepak Chauhan, and Neeraj (SOG). Thanks to the team’s vigilance and prompt action, yet another trafficker has been brought to justice.
Uttarkashi police have made it clear that checking and monitoring along the Char Dham travel routes will continue. No individual involved in drug trafficking or illegal activities will be spared, and strict actions will persist.
