
Dehradun, May 17: In a significant event, Uttarakhand’s Cabinet Minister and Sitarganj MLA Saurabh Bahuguna visited Jaspur today. He inaugurated a basketball court constructed by former MLA Dr. Shailendra Mohan Singhal by cutting the ribbon.
During the inauguration, Bahuguna interacted with players participating in a basketball match held at the new court and even took a shot at the basket. In a conversation with the media, he praised Dr. Singhal for his initiative in establishing the basketball court. He highlighted the consistent performance of Uttarakhand’s talents in national sports and noted that Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is providing excellent platforms for the state’s athletes. Bahuguna emphasized that Uttarakhand is rich in talent.
Regarding the construction of a sports stadium in Jaspur, he mentioned that Chief Minister Dhami is aware of the project. The government is committed to supporting athletes and promoting sports, which has led to the introduction of reservations for players. He assured that a stadium will soon be available in Jaspur.
On the topic of the Kedarnath pilgrimage, Bahuguna addressed the issue of 250 mule deaths reported in 2022. He stated that the Animal Husbandry Department has implemented Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to prevent such incidents. As a result, the number of mule deaths dropped significantly to just 25 in 2025. He reiterated that no sick, injured, or weak horses will be allowed on the pilgrimage route, and so far, there have been no adverse situations reported.
In response to the NEET exam paper leak, Bahuguna expressed gratitude to the central government for promptly initiating a CBI investigation, which has led to the arrest of the main accused. He reassured the youth of the country that the central government stands by their future and that the NEET exam will be conducted again soon.
Addressing the rising prices of petrol and diesel, he noted that the ongoing conflict in West Asia is affecting not just Uttarakhand but the entire nation and beyond. He expressed hope for a swift resolution to the conflict and a return to normalcy.
