Uttarakhand CM Dhami Pays Tribute to Martyrs of Mussoorie Shooting Incident

Dehradun, September 3: A tribute ceremony was held in Mussoorie to honor the martyrs of the Uttarakhand state movement. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami paid homage to all known and unknown activists who sacrificed their lives during the struggle. He emphasized that the land of Uttarakhand will always be indebted to those brave activists who gave their utmost for the dream of a separate state.

CM Dhami noted that he has consistently attended the memorial day in Mussoorie for the past five years to pay his respects. However, due to heavy rainfall in Khatima, he could not personally attend this year’s event. Continuous rain began around 8:30 AM, making it impossible for him to reach Mussoorie by the required time of 10:30 AM. He expressed personal regret for missing the event after five consecutive years of attendance and offered his tribute virtually.

The Chief Minister referenced the Khatima shooting incident, stating that protests also occurred in Mussoorie in response. The activists were peacefully demonstrating for the demand of a separate Uttarakhand state, unarmed and without any intent of violence. Their only aspiration was a better Uttarakhand and the establishment of a separate state. The then-existing system attempted to suppress their democratic voice with gunfire.

He remarked that the activists made the ultimate sacrifice to protect Uttarakhand’s dignity and self-respect. These sacrifices infused new strength, direction, and struggle into the movement for a separate state. Dhami paid heartfelt tribute to immortal martyrs such as Belmati Chauhan, Hansa Dhanai, Balbir Singh Negi, Dhanpat Singh, Rai Singh Bangari, and Manmohan Mamgai. He also honored DSP Umakant Tripathi, who lost his life while performing his duties.

The Chief Minister acknowledged all known and unknown activists who contributed to the Uttarakhand state formation movement. He expressed respect for the families of the martyrs and the activists present at the event, assuring that future generations will remember the sacrifices made during the state movement. Dhami concluded by stating that the creation of Uttarakhand is a result of the struggles and sacrifices of these activists, and the memories of the martyrs will always be linked to the state’s dignity and pride.
