Lucknow, May 19: A statement regarding public prayer in Uttar Pradesh’s Sonbhadra has sparked significant discussion. Bhupesh Chaube, the BJP legislator from Robertsganj, made a stern remark about praying on the streets, asserting, “Those who pray on the road will face consequences.”
Chaube emphasized that no one should be allowed to pray in public spaces. He insisted that prayers should be conducted in mosques, not on public roads.
This statement follows remarks made by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who stated that no religious activities causing traffic disruptions would be permitted on the streets.
Supporting CM Yogi’s statement, Chaube remarked, “Pray in the mosque; how can one sit on the road to block traffic? The Chief Minister’s decision is absolutely correct.”
He further noted that previously, people would gather on the streets for prayers instead of mosques. However, he claimed that since the establishment of Yogi Adityanath’s government in the state and Narendra Modi’s government at the center, there has been an improvement in this situation.
Chaube asserted that the tradition of praying on the streets is gradually coming to an end. According to him, the government is taking a strict stance on law and order, and it is essential to keep public spaces clear for the convenience of the general public.
It is worth mentioning that on May 18, during a media event in Lucknow, Chief Minister Yogi issued a stern warning regarding public prayers. He stated that his government would not permit any religious activities that disrupt traffic.
The Chief Minister also remarked that the law applies equally to all communities and that public roads should remain accessible for travelers, daily workers, and emergency services.
