Lucknow, February 22: Mata Prasad Pandey, the Leader of the Opposition in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly and a member of the Samajwadi Party (SP), has accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government of tarnishing the state’s reputation. He stated that Uttar Pradesh has never been as infamous as it is today.
In a media interaction in Lucknow, Pandey emphasized that under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s administration, the state has gained a notorious reputation due to encounters, false cases against innocent individuals, and legal actions against revered figures like Shankaracharya.
Reflecting on the SP’s tenure, he noted that during their governance, Uttar Pradesh was not stigmatized. Significant developments occurred, including the construction of roads, courts, metro systems, and expressways, all achieved with a modest budget. In contrast, he criticized the current government for allocating millions on paper without actual expenditures.
Pandey supported SP chief Akhilesh Yadav’s remarks regarding a case against Ram Bhadrachar, which was withdrawn during their administration, preventing his imprisonment. He advised ignoring Ram Bhadrachar, labeling him a government-supported sadhu.
Furthermore, he pointed out that Akhilesh Yadav has also attempted to challenge the government regarding the case involving Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand. Pandey condemned the government’s efforts to resurrect a 20-year-old incident to humiliate the Shankaracharya, stating that if the complainant is indeed a disciple of Ram Bhadrachar, he regrets not sending him to jail when he had the chance. He criticized the government for stooping to such levels of accusation, asserting that it can no longer evade accountability.
