Chennai, May 11: In a thrilling match of IPL 2026, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batsman Urvil Patel achieved a remarkable feat by scoring the fastest half-century of the league against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). He emphasized that his batting was purely based on the match situation and the ball.
Urvil completed his half-century in just 13 balls, matching the record set by Yashasvi Jaiswal, who also scored a fifty in 13 balls against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2023.
Facing 23 balls, Urvil scored an impressive 65 runs, hitting eight sixes and two fours. Thanks to his explosive innings, CSK successfully chased down LSG’s target of 204 runs with four balls to spare. This marked CSK’s first successful chase of over 180 runs since 2019.
After the match, Urvil stated, “I had no specific thoughts; I just wanted to bat according to the situation and the ball. The coach advised me to maintain a stable base and then go for the hits, which I did. Ruturaj mentioned that the wicket was low, and I needed to be prepared. He didn’t give me much advice and allowed me to play my natural game.”
Player of the Match, Jamie Overton, expressed his satisfaction with his performance. He said, “It felt great to perform well. Crossing the line and securing two more points was satisfying. I believe it was just the result of doing what I do best. I focused on hitting the stumps, which paid off.”
Overton took three crucial wickets while conceding 36 runs in his four-over spell. This victory marks CSK’s sixth win of the season, elevating them to fifth place in the points table.
