Upasana Singh Reveals Harsh Realities Behind Film Industry Glamour

Mumbai: Actress Upasana Singh, popularly known as Pinky Bua from ‘The Kapil Sharma Show,’ opened up about the bitter truths hidden behind the glamour of the entertainment industry. In a candid conversation, she highlighted the struggles and hardships that many artists face, which often go unnoticed by the public.

Upasana Singh explained that while the industry appears glamorous from the outside, it is filled with uncertainty, poverty, and constant struggle for many inside it. “People think everything in the film industry is easy and glamorous, and actors live comfortably. But the reality is very different. When I became the General Secretary of the Cinema and TV Artists Association, I learned the true conditions,” she said.

She revealed that many artists earn barely ₹1,200 a year, with some working only four to five days annually. Even then, coordinators deduct a 25 percent commission from daily wages of ₹5,000. Payments are often delayed by 90 to 120 days, making it difficult to manage expenses like rent, children’s school fees, and household costs in an expensive city like Mumbai.

Upasana further stated, “After TDS deductions and coordinator commissions, how much actually remains with them? Many times, these artists don’t even have money for medical expenses and cannot visit doctors. Taking care of their health becomes a luxury. They have to constantly fight to survive in this industry.”

During the conversation, she appeared deeply emotional. “I feel great sadness. By God’s grace, I got good roles and popularity, but seeing the conditions of these artists broke my heart. We are now trying to support them continuously through the association,” she added.

Upasana Singh has been a part of the industry for a long time. She has worked in hit films such as ‘Judwaa,’ ‘Hulchul,’ ‘Hungama,’ ‘Golmaal Returns,’ and ‘Chak De Phatte.’ Her comic roles on television, especially as Pinky Bua on ‘Comedy Nights with Kapil’ and ‘The Kapil Sharma Show,’ have been widely loved by audiences.
