UP Excise Revenue Soars to ₹39,695 Crore; Crackdown on Illegal Liquor Intensifies

Lucknow: The excise department of Uttar Pradesh has witnessed a significant rise in revenue till December in the financial year 2025-26, reflecting the impact of strict enforcement policies by the administration. The state has surpassed last year’s revenue figures while launching a vigorous campaign against illegal liquor and narcotics trafficking.

According to Nitin Agarwal, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Excise and Prohibition, Uttar Pradesh earned a total excise revenue of ₹39,695.73 crore till December 2025. This marks a 14.91 percent increase compared to ₹34,544.09 crore collected by December 2024, representing a growth of ₹5,151.64 crore.

The state had set a revenue target of ₹43,400 crore for December 2025, achieving 91.46 percent of this goal. December 2025 alone saw an income of ₹4,551.62 crore, up 9.90 percent or ₹409.87 crore from ₹4,141.75 crore recorded in December 2024.

The minister highlighted notable success in enforcement actions against illegal liquor manufacturing, sale, and trafficking. In December 2025, a total of 9,679 cases were registered across Uttar Pradesh, with the seizure of 2.43 lakh litres of illicit liquor and narcotics. During this period, 1,754 accused were arrested, 313 sent to jail, and 18 vehicles confiscated.

Under a special enforcement drive conducted from 24 December 2025 to 5 January 2026, 2,871 cases were filed and 59,823 litres of illegal liquor and narcotics seized. The campaign led to 515 arrests, with 95 persons remanded to jail and two vehicles used for smuggling impounded.

Agarwal stated that the government’s priority is not only to boost revenue but also to completely dismantle the illegal liquor network. He assured that strict operations will continue to achieve these objectives.
