Lucknow: Following a bribery complaint raised during a public hearing, Uttar Pradesh’s Minister for Urban Development and Energy, A.K. Sharma, has taken a firm stand against corruption in the electricity department by ordering immediate action.
The complaint originated from Amroha district’s Naugaon Sadat area, where resident Mohammad Yousa, son of Qasim, reported that officials demanded bribes for providing electricity connections and deliberately delayed the work. On receiving this complaint during the public hearing, the minister promptly intervened.
Swift Disciplinary Measures
Minister A.K. Sharma instructed the Managing Director of the Paschimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited, Ravish Gupta, to conduct a quick and strict inquiry. Following these directives, action was taken late into the night. A junior engineer, Rajiv Singh, was suspended immediately, and a lineman named Abbas was dismissed from service. Additionally, two senior officials, Sub-Divisional Officer Ritesh Prasad and Executive Engineer Rahul Nigam, were asked to provide explanations under Rule 10. If their responses prove unsatisfactory, departmental action will be recommended against them.
Zero Tolerance for Corruption
The energy minister made it clear that the electricity department exists to serve the public and not to harass or extort illegal payments. He emphasized that corruption, negligence, and bribery at any level will not be tolerated. The government maintains a zero-tolerance policy on corruption, and every complaint received through public hearings will be met with swift and decisive action.
Warning to Officials and Staff
Minister Sharma warned that any misuse of position by officials or employees will be dealt with strictly, without any pressure or discrimination. He reaffirmed that causing inconvenience to the public is unacceptable and assured that such strict enforcement will continue to ensure transparency and accountability within the department.
