Namchi, May 15: Union Minister for Communications and Development of the Northeastern Region, Jyotiraditya Scindhia, visited the renowned Temi Tea Garden in Namchi on the second day of his trip to Sikkim. As the only tea estate in the state, Scindhia interacted warmly with the tea leaf pickers and staff, commending their hard work and dedication.
During his visit, Scindhia donned a traditional bamboo basket and personally picked tea leaves, spending quality time with the workers. He praised their speed, precision, and the skills honed over years of practice, emphasizing the crucial role these individuals play in giving Sikkim’s tea a global identity.
A heartfelt moment occurred when the minister conversed fluently in Nepali with the workers and locals. His use of the Nepali language fostered a sense of camaraderie and excitement throughout the tea garden, where he was warmly welcomed by the community.
Scindhia remarked that the culture, traditions, and natural wealth of Northeast India are invaluable treasures, with the Temi Tea Garden representing its beautiful identity. He stated that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the central government is continuously working to promote tourism, agriculture, and local products from the northeastern region on a global platform.
He shared a video of the tea garden on the social media platform X, captioning it, “Tea in its most fundamental and extraordinary form!”
He noted that his tour of the Temi Tea Processing Unit showcased the achievements of disciplined, organic farming. From freshly picked leaves to fermentation, drying, and final packaging, every stage at Temi exemplifies a standard worthy of global recognition. Located in the heights of the Himalayas, Temi is Sikkim’s only tea garden, with the majestic Kanchenjunga as its eternal witness. It is certified organic and recognized among the best tea houses worldwide.
He emphasized that this reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Vocal for Local’ vision, which is evident in every leaf.
