Mumbai: BJP leader Kirits Somaiya has announced a major operation against illegal street vendors in Mumbai, particularly those linked to Bangladeshi infiltration networks. He stated that slum mafias, vendor mafias, and extensive Bangladeshi networks are active in the city, and his team has launched a campaign to tackle them.
Somaiya informed that the initiative has begun in Mumbai’s eastern suburbs. The first step involves clearing unauthorized vendors from areas around railway stations. Now, no unauthorized vendor will be allowed to operate within a 100-meter radius of any railway station. Areas covered in this operation include Mulund, Ghatkopar, Bhandup, Kurla, and Chembur.
He alleged that until now, certain mafias and their contractors had control within the municipal corporation, accepting money from vendors and overlooking illegal activities. However, with the central government, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s administration, and BJP’s influence in the Mumbai Municipal Corporation, the situation is changing.
Somaiya emphasized that all unauthorized vendors near station premises and surrounding areas will be removed. Particular focus will be on those suspected of illegal entry from Bangladesh. A process to send such individuals back to their native villages or places of origin has also been initiated.
On the political front, Somaiya remarked that no one can replace Ajit Pawar. However, the BJP and Maha Vikas Aghadi government maintain that the NCP has the right to choose its own leaders. Decisions related to the departments and the Deputy Chief Minister post held by the NCP will be made by that party, and BJP along with Maha Vikas Aghadi will respect and accept those decisions.
