UK Air Chief Marshal Meets Indian Army Chief to Strengthen Defense Ties

New Delhi, March 25: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Upendra Dwivedi met with the United Kingdom’s Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Sir Harvey Smith, in New Delhi on Wednesday. The two leaders discussed the current geopolitical situation and issues of mutual interest.

The Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADGPI) of the Indian Army posted on social media platform ‘X’, stating, “Air Chief Marshal Sir Harvey Smith, Chief of the Air Staff, Royal Air Force (UK), met with General Upendra Dwivedi, COAS. They deliberated on the current geopolitical landscape and discussed issues of mutual interest, focusing on strengthening bilateral defense cooperation and exploring joint initiatives to promote peace and security.”

On Tuesday, Air Chief Marshal Sir Harvey Smith visited the Air Force Station in Gwalior. He closely observed the operations of the Indian Air Force’s fighter base and engaged in discussions with air warriors.

The Indian Air Force’s Media Coordination Centre shared on ‘X’, “Air Chief Marshal Sir Harvey Smith, Chief of the Air Staff, RAF (UK), visited the Air Force Station Gwalior on March 24. He gained firsthand experience of IAF’s fighter base operations and interacted with the air warriors. Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief (AOC-in-C), Air Marshal B. Manikantan, welcomed him. This visit enhanced mutual understanding between the two air forces and explored new opportunities for cooperation and interoperability.”

On the same day, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan met with Air Chief Marshal Sir Harvey Smith in New Delhi. They discussed advancements in training exchanges, intelligence cooperation, and integrated military engagement.

The Indian High Commission in London posted on ‘X’, stating, “Advancing future-ready India-UK defense cooperation, CDS General Anil Chauhan engaged with Royal Air Force Chief, Air Chief Marshal Sir Harvey Smith. The focus of this conversation was on discussing progress in training exchanges, intelligence cooperation, and integrated military engagement.”

During the meeting, General Anil Chauhan praised the successful organization of the 17th Military Sub Group meeting and expressed confidence in advancing deeper, integrated, and future-oriented defense cooperation between India and the UK.

The meeting was attended by the UK High Commissioner to India, Lindy Cameron, and other officials.

The Integrated Defence Staff Headquarters posted on ‘X’, stating, “CDS General Anil Chauhan confirmed the strengthening of the India-UK defense partnership during discussions with Royal Air Force Chief, Air Chief Marshal Sir Harvey Smith. The exchange of trainers remains a vital pillar of bilateral cooperation, with notable progress in enhancing defense intelligence collaboration.”

It further stated that the CDS appreciated the successful organization of the 17th Military Sub Group meeting and expressed confidence in advancing a deeper, more integrated, and future-ready defense engagement.

On Monday, during his official visit to India, Air Chief Marshal Sir Harvey Smith also met with Indian Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh. They discussed operational cooperation, interoperability, and strengthening bilateral air power relations.

The IAF stated, “During his official visit to India, Royal Air Force Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Sir Harvey Smith, met with Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh, Chief of the Air Staff, Indian Air Force. The discussions centered on operational cooperation, interoperability, and strengthening bilateral air power relations.”

Air Chief Marshal Sir Harvey Smith paid tribute to the brave martyrs of the Indian Armed Forces at the National War Memorial in New Delhi on Monday.
