New Delhi, March 4: In today’s fast-paced world, maintaining good health has become a significant challenge. Irregular routines, junk food consumption, stress, and lack of physical activity are leading to serious health issues.
To combat these challenges, incorporating yoga and pranayama into daily life has become essential. These ancient Indian practices promote a healthy mind and body.
One such practice is Udiyan Bandh, which the Ministry of AYUSH in India recommends for daily inclusion. The ministry emphasizes that Udiyan Bandh is not just a physical exercise but an art of purifying the body from within. It is one of the most effective yoga techniques for strengthening the digestive system and toning abdominal muscles, often referred to as the “abdominal lock.” Therefore, it is advisable to make it a part of your lifestyle today.
The Ministry of AYUSH has also shared the correct technique for performing this practice. First, sit carefully in Padmasana, Vajrasana, or Sukhasana.
Next, place your palms on your knees and exhale all the air from your mouth. Then, inhale deeply and hold your breath while applying Jalandhar Bandh (throat lock).
Pull your abdominal muscles inward and upward. After that, hold your breath comfortably for as long as possible and gradually release the Jalandhar Bandh. Finally, inhale slowly and allow your abdominal muscles to return to their normal state.
Udiyan Bandh is a powerful yoga action that involves fully exhaling while pulling the abdominal muscles inward and upward toward the spine. Regular practice of this exercise can greatly benefit digestion, energy flow, and mental peace.
