New Delhi, February 17: Congress leader Udit Raj has praised Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, as a capable leader. He emphasized that Gandhi is among those who do not squander their ancestral legacy but rather preserve and advance it.
Udit Raj’s remarks come in response to former Congress leader Navjot Kaur Sidhu‘s comments, suggesting that Gandhi appears bound by the mindset of the Gandhi family.
In a conversation in New Delhi, Udit Raj stated that Rahul Gandhi openly acknowledges his political lineage. He added that those who criticize him should first assess their own standing before making comparisons. He noted that even with a rich heritage, some individuals can falter. He questioned the fate of historical figures like the Mughals and prominent kings in India, suggesting that if descendants are unworthy, they can squander their parents’ legacy. Udit Raj firmly believes that Rahul Gandhi is capable and is indeed carrying forward his ancestors’ legacy.
Addressing comments made by Mani Shankar Aiyar, Udit Raj mentioned that anyone is free to contest elections. He explained that a candidate is chosen based on their dedication to the party, membership, participation in protests, and engagement with party workers.
Navjot Kaur Sidhu expressed her confusion regarding Rahul Gandhi, stating that he has not yet reached a level where he can engage equally with everyone and remain open to dialogue. She feels he is still influenced by the Gandhi family’s mindset, which may prevent him from listening to those who genuinely wish to guide him. She criticized the lengthy delays in meetings, suggesting that a leader should be accessible to all, especially to those offering honest and constructive advice.
