UAEs Haider Shah Replaces Muhammad Johaib for T20 World Cup 2026

New Delhi, February 12: Haider Shah will replace Muhammad Johaib in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) team for the T20 World Cup 2026. The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Event Technical Committee approved this change on Wednesday.

The ICC stated, “Haider, who has played 16 T20 international matches, was selected as a replacement after Johaib was removed from the team due to mental health and team welfare issues.”

Currently, the UAE team is in Group D of the T20 World Cup 2026. They are positioned fourth in the points table after losing their opening match against New Zealand. On February 10, the UAE faced a heavy defeat, losing by 10 wickets.

In the match held at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium, the UAE scored 173 runs while losing 6 wickets, marking their highest-ever T20 World Cup innings.

The team lost Aryansh Sharma (8) early at a score of 12. However, Alishan Sharafu partnered with captain Muhammad Wasim to add 107 runs for the second wicket off 77 balls, bringing the score to 119.

Sharafu scored 55 runs off 47 balls, hitting 2 sixes and 5 fours. Following his dismissal, Wasim added 40 runs with Mayank Kumar for the fourth wicket in just 19 balls. Wasim remained unbeaten at 66 runs off 45 balls, featuring 3 sixes and 4 fours, while Mayank contributed 21 runs off 13 balls. From the opposition, Matt Henry took the most wickets, claiming 2.

In response, New Zealand’s opening pair, Tim Seifert and Finn Allen, led their team to victory in 15.2 overs. Seifert scored an unbeaten 89 runs off 42 balls, hitting 3 sixes and 12 fours, while Allen contributed 84 runs off 50 balls, including 5 sixes and 5 fours.
