New Delhi, May 14: Amid escalating tensions between the United States and Iran, two LPG ships destined for India have successfully crossed the Hormuz Strait, according to reports.
The liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) vessel Simi was spotted in the Gulf of Oman after temporarily turning off its transponder while navigating the Hormuz Strait on Thursday.
Another LPG ship, NV Sunshine, experienced a similar situation while passing through the Strait.
This incident occurs during a period of heightened tensions in the Middle East, with the Hormuz Strait being a critical chokepoint.
Reports indicate that the NV Sunshine, loaded with LPG from the Ruwais refinery in the United Arab Emirates, was last seen heading towards Mangalore, India.
Meanwhile, the Simi is transporting fuel from Qatar’s Ras Laffan port to Kandla in Gujarat.
Earlier this month, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the ceasefire with Iran is “on life support,” indicating ongoing conflicts between the two nations over various issues, including Iran’s nuclear program and control of the Hormuz Strait.
Additionally, Trump recently deemed a peace proposal sent by Iran as unacceptable.
In a post on the social media platform Truth Social, the U.S. President expressed dissatisfaction with Iran’s response presented through intermediaries.
Reports suggest that Iran has conveyed its reaction to the latest U.S. peace initiative via Pakistan, which is acting as a mediator between Tehran and Washington.
The Hormuz Strait is one of the world’s most vital energy routes, through which a significant portion of global crude oil, LNG, and fuel supplies pass, much of which is destined for India.
