Two Arrested for Drug Trafficking in Jammu and Kashmir

Jammu, February 23: In a significant breakthrough in the fight against drugs, police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district have arrested two individuals involved in drug trafficking. The arrests occurred on Monday during a routine check in the Surankot area.

According to police officials, a team from the Surankot police station was conducting regular checkpoint operations when they noticed suspicious activities at various locations. The two suspects attempted to flee upon seeing the police but were apprehended.

Upon searching them, the police recovered heroin. Approximately 18 grams of this prohibited substance was seized from both individuals. Following legal procedures, the confiscated drugs were taken into custody at the scene.

The first arrested individual has been identified as Shah Rukh Khan, a resident of Buffliaz in Surankot, from whom about 9.12 grams of narcotics were recovered. An FIR has been registered against him under the NDPS Act at the Surankot police station.

The second suspect, Abid Rashid, hails from Poshwal Mohalla in Samote, Surankot, and was found in possession of 8.84 grams of narcotics. An FIR has also been filed against him under the NDPS Act at the same police station.

Both suspects are currently in custody, and the police have initiated further investigations. Officials stated that intensive questioning is underway to trace the source of the drugs and the supply network. Additionally, efforts are being made to identify other members of this trafficking ring.

The district police in Poonch have reiterated their commitment to combating drug-related issues in the region, emphasizing that drug traffickers will not be spared. The police are interrogating the suspects to uncover where they sourced the drugs and their intended destinations. Following this, all members of the trafficking gang will be apprehended.

The police have also urged the public to report any suspicious activities related to drugs immediately, to help safeguard the community from this threat.
