TVK Clarifies Stance on AIADMK Rebel Faction Led by Shanmugam

Chennai, May 20: The TVK government, led by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, has addressed rising speculation regarding its expansion and the potential inclusion of the rebel faction of AIADMK, headed by C.V. Shanmugam, in the cabinet. Minister Aadhav Arjun attempted to clarify the party’s position and outlined the broader political vision of the ruling coalition.

Following the assembly elections, TVK emerged as the largest party, with Vijay taking the oath of office alongside nine ministers on May 10. Attention has now shifted to the government’s anticipated cabinet expansion, expected to occur this week.

Sources indicate that Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar is set to meet with Chief Minister Vijay and senior officials in Chennai to discuss the cabinet expansion process.

Political experts are closely monitoring this development, particularly regarding the potential inclusion of Congress representatives and whether other coalition partners will also be accommodated.

While addressing journalists in Chennai, Minister Arjun stated that TVK supports broad political representation. He emphasized that Chief Minister Vijay aims to unite like-minded parties on a common platform.

He mentioned that the party has invited VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan to join the government, stressing the need for representation from Congress, leftist parties, and IUML within the administration.

Arjun stated, “Rahul Gandhi, Thirumavalavan, and leftist leaders have united to uphold constitutional values. This spirit of unity must persist.”

Discussing the situation within AIADMK, Aadhav Arjun noted a significant political shift post-elections. He argued that a faction within AIADMK has grown dissatisfied with the party’s direction, alleging that it has strayed from its core principles.

Specifically referencing the faction led by C.V. Shanmugam, Aadhav remarked that this group has clarified its intent not to seek power or ministerial positions but to protect the legacies of former leaders M.G. Ramachandran and J. Jayalalitha and to strengthen the party.

He added that Vijay holds MGR in high regard. “We view AIADMK with friendship and goodwill. This is not just about political support; it’s about maintaining harmonious relations.” He also noted that C.V. Shanmugam will soon announce his future strategy.
