Washington: US President Donald Trump on Monday stated that the United States has earned over 600 billion dollars through tariffs so far, with more revenue expected in the future. He claimed that the tariff policy has strengthened the country’s economic position and boosted national security.
Trump accused the media of deliberately ignoring this issue ahead of a significant Supreme Court ruling. Posting on his social media platform ‘Truth Social’, he said, “We have collected more than 600 billion dollars from tariffs and will continue to do so, but the fake news media is not discussing this because they hate our country and want to influence the upcoming Supreme Court tariff decision, which is one of the most important decisions for America.”
He further added that tariffs have made the United States stronger and more respected economically and from a national security perspective.
Since returning to power in January 2025, the Trump administration has used tariffs as a key tool in national security and foreign policy. Heavy duties have been imposed on products imported from various countries worldwide, including a 50 percent tariff on goods coming from India.
Meanwhile, a report by the South China Morning Post noted that India is working to reduce its dependence on the US and diversify its exports. After the imposition of punitive import tariffs of 50 percent on Indian products, New Delhi has maintained a firm stance against these charges while keeping diplomatic channels open.
The United States is India’s largest export market, accounting for about 18 percent of India’s total goods exports. These include products such as garments and leather, which are also purchased by the large Indian diaspora residing in the US.
