Tripura CM Promises Support to Victim of Brutal Attack in Gurugram

New Delhi, March 3: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha assured the parents of a 19-year-old girl from the state of his full support after she was allegedly assaulted in Gurugram.

An official from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) stated that Saha, currently in New Delhi, met with the victim’s parents and expressed his sympathy.

The girl was reportedly attacked by her live-in partner, sparking outrage across Tripura and other northeastern states. In a Facebook post, the Chief Minister said, “Today, I met the parents of the Gurugram victim in New Delhi.”

He added, “With deep sympathy, I assured them of the Tripura government’s full support and directed the Special Chief Resident Commissioner at the Tripura Bhawan in Delhi to stand by them. The Tripura government has already decided to cover all medical expenses for the victim. Our thoughts are with you.”

Saha previously mentioned that Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini assured him of justice in the case involving the Tripura student.

Following the Chief Minister’s directive, Tripura’s Social Welfare Minister Tinku Roy visited the hospital to assess the situation and provide assistance to the victim. Saha also stated that he had already spoken with the Central Health Minister’s office to ensure the best medical treatment for the girl.

The victim, who is studying biotechnology in Gurugram, was allegedly subjected to severe physical torture by her live-in partner, Shivam (19). This incident came to light in the third week of last month when the victim made a distress call to her mother, claiming that her partner had locked her in a room and assaulted her for three consecutive days.

According to the victim’s mother, the accused befriended her daughter through online chatting a few months ago and promised to marry her. She alleged that he kept her daughter confined for three days and subjected her to inhumane torture, including forcing her to drink her own urine.

Shivam is a resident of the Narela area in Delhi. He was arrested on February 19 after an FIR was filed against him at the Badshahpur police station in Gurugram.

The victim’s mother informed the media and police that her daughter had called her in distress, saying, “I don’t have time; I will be killed… Shivam has been beating and burning me for the last three days. He will kill me today.”

Upon receiving this information, the mother contacted the Gurugram police, who rescued her daughter and admitted her to the hospital. She stated, “My daughter is a very good student and went to Gurugram only for studies. Shivam somehow lured her through online chatting. Her condition has worsened due to inhumane torture.”

Previously, police reported that the accused had allegedly engaged in physical relations with the girl under the pretense of marriage. The Gurugram police confirmed they are closely monitoring the case. Charges of rape and assault have been added to the FIR, and the accused has been remanded to judicial custody. Further investigations are ongoing.

The police also mentioned that the victim was initially admitted to AIIMS in Delhi and is currently receiving treatment at Safdarjung Hospital in the national capital.
