Tripura Chief Minister Condemns Attack on BSF Personnel, Promises Strict Action

Tripuras CM Manik Saha condemned the attack on BSF soldiers near the India-Bangladesh border and vowed strict action against the perpetrators.

Agartala, November 3 (Daily Kiran) : Chief Minister Manik Saha of Tripura has strongly condemned the recent attack on three Border Security Force (BSF) personnel near the India-Bangladesh border. He described the incident as “unacceptable” and a matter of “serious concern.”

The attack occurred in the Sepahijala district during a smuggling-related incident. It unfolded on a Monday when tensions escalated between BSF personnel stationed at the Ashabari Border Outpost and local residents.

In a post on the social media platform X, Saha expressed his outrage, stating, “I vehemently condemn the brutal attack on our brave BSF personnel by a group of miscreants in Ashabari. Such violence against our security forces is completely unacceptable and must be condemned.” He instructed officials to take stringent action against those responsible.

Saha emphasized that any assault on security personnel is a serious issue that should be addressed firmly under the law. He directed relevant authorities to act swiftly and decisively to ensure justice, asserting that security personnel deserve respect and safety.

According to media reports, the incident began when BSF soldiers from the 49th Battalion detained a man named Hefjur Rahman on suspicion of smuggling while clearing vegetation in Ashabari. Following this, a heated argument erupted between the locals and the BSF personnel near the Bokajan-Rahimpur road.

The situation escalated as locals blocked the road and attacked a BSF vehicle with sticks and bamboo, resulting in injuries to Company Commander Rohit and three other BSF members. A video of the incident has since gone viral, showing the crowd charging at the BSF personnel and assaulting them.

The injured soldiers were transported to the Bokajan Primary Health Center for treatment. In response to the attack, security measures in the area have been heightened.
