Tripura Chief Minister and BJP Leaders to Attend Oath Ceremonies in West Bengal and Assam

Kolkata, May 8: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha and several senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will participate in the oath-taking ceremonies of the newly elected BJP-led governments in West Bengal and Assam on May 10 and 12, respectively.

In the recently concluded assembly elections, the BJP made history by coming to power in West Bengal for the first time. The party secured 207 out of 294 seats, decisively defeating the Trinamool Congress led by Mamata Banerjee, which managed to win only 80 seats.

Meanwhile, in Assam, the BJP-led alliance strengthened its position. In the 126-member assembly, the BJP alone won 82 seats, successfully retaining power for the third consecutive term. Additionally, alliance partners Assam Gana Parishad and Bodoland People’s Front each won 10 seats.

The Congress party secured 19 seats, while the All India United Democratic Front and Raijor Dal won two seats each. The Trinamool Congress managed to win just one seat.

Chief Minister Saha and other BJP leaders have already arrived in Kolkata for the oath-taking ceremony scheduled for Saturday at 10 AM at Brigade Parade Ground. This event coincides with the birthday of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore according to the Bengali calendar.

Governor R.N. Ravi will administer the oath of office and secrecy. The ceremony will be attended by Prime Minister Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, chief ministers from other BJP-ruled states, several central ministers, and senior BJP leaders from across the country.

Before departing for Kolkata, the Chief Minister told reporters in Agartala, “I am going to Kolkata to participate in the oath-taking ceremony of the BJP’s first government. I will also attend the oath-taking ceremony of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government in Assam on May 12.”

BJP sources indicated that several other leaders from Tripura will also attend the oath-taking ceremony in Guwahati on May 12. The Chief Minister emphasized that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, the BJP is achieving victories in state after state across the country. He described PM Modi as a unique and influential leader in India’s political landscape.

Saha noted that during the pre-election campaign, he visited various places in West Bengal and witnessed a strong wave of change. Ultimately, this resulted in the BJP’s remarkable victory, which exceeded expectations. He also criticized Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee for not resigning from the chief minister’s position following her party’s significant defeat.

Earlier, the Chief Minister congratulated Suvendu Adhikari on being elected as the leader of the BJP legislative party in the West Bengal assembly.
