Tribute to Mahatma Gandhi in Madrid: Minister Emphasizes Truth and Non-Violence

In Madrid, Indias Minister paid tribute to Gandhi, highlighting the enduring relevance of truth and non-violence in todays world.

Madrid, November 3 (Daily Kiran) : Central Minister of State for External Affairs, Pabitra Margerita, paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi in Madrid on November 3. He laid a floral tribute at Gandhi’s statue, emphasizing that the ideals of truth and non-violence continue to serve as guiding principles for peace, justice, and harmony.

In a post on the social media platform X, Margerita wrote, “I paid tribute to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Madrid. His eternal principles of truth and non-violence continue to inspire humanity and guide our collective pursuit of peace, justice, and harmony.”

Margerita arrived in Madrid on Monday to participate in the 30th Ibero-American Conference, where India will take part as an associate observer. After his arrival, he expressed hopes for meaningful dialogue with the Latin American community.

The Ibero-American Conference includes 22 member countries, with 19 from Latin America and three from Europe (Spain, Portugal, and Andorra), alongside 12 co-observers and 20 advisory observers. These summits aim to strengthen cooperation, address shared challenges, and promote sustainable development.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Margerita’s visit will last until November 5. During this time, he will hold bilateral meetings with key counterparts and engage with the Indian community in Madrid.

The ministry noted that this visit marks a significant milestone in the ongoing celebrations of the bilingual year of culture, tourism, and artificial intelligence between India and Spain. Last month, India reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing its long-term partnership with Spain, focusing on trade and investment, defense and security, as well as cultural and tourism ties.

This commitment was echoed by MEA Secretary (West) Sibi George, who represented India at Spain’s National Day celebrations in New Delhi. He highlighted the progress of the India-Spain long-term partnership and confirmed the commitment to strengthen relations across various sectors, including culture, tourism, and public diplomacy, in light of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

Both nations have increased cooperation in various fields, including defense, over the past two years.
