While honoring Ekka, the Vice President recalled his extraordinary courage and ultimate sacrifice during the Battle of Gangasagar in the 1971 India-Pakistan War. He described it as a timeless example of the indomitable spirit and selfless dedication of the Indian Armed Forces. The Vice President stated that Ekka’s sacrifice continues to inspire the nation.
He also mentioned his visit to Ekka’s birthplace in Gumla district during his tenure as Governor of Jharkhand. Lance Naik Albert Ekka was awarded the Param Vir Chakra for his unique bravery during the 1971 war. He single-handedly faced a Pakistani assault in the Battle of Gangasagar, saving the lives of his comrades. Despite sustaining three gunshot wounds, he drove the enemy back and fulfilled his duty until his last breath. His valor remains immortal in the history of the Indian Army.
