
Pune, June 5: A tragic LPG gas cylinder explosion in the Khandve Nagar area of Pune, Maharashtra, resulted in the deaths of two individuals on Friday morning. Additionally, one person is currently fighting for their life. In a remarkable act of bravery, a six-year-old girl managed to save herself by jumping from the first floor.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a new LPG cylinder was being installed after the old one ran out. During this process, a gas leak occurred, causing gas to fill the entire room. Moments later, a powerful explosion engulfed the house in flames.
According to the fire department, the incident was reported around 9:15 AM. Fire engines from Kharadi, Dhanori, and Yerwada fire stations were dispatched immediately.
By the time firefighters arrived, a fierce blaze had already spread throughout the ground and first floors. The fire brigade team quickly initiated water sprays to control the fire and rescued those trapped inside, transporting them to the hospital.
The victims included Vishnu Gite (60), Rundiwanika Vishnu Gite (50), and Pandurang Vishnu Gite (35), all of whom suffered severe burns. Unfortunately, two of them succumbed to their injuries during treatment, while one remains in critical condition.
In the midst of this tragedy, six-year-old Niharika Gite’s quick thinking saved her life. Surrounded by flames and smoke, she jumped from the first floor. Both she and her mother sustained minor injuries and are currently receiving treatment at the hospital, where their condition is reported to be stable.
Fire brigade officials reported that the flat’s hall was completely destroyed by the fire. Furniture, television, electrical wiring, and other household items were lost. The bathroom and toilet doors, geyser, refrigerator in the kitchen, and other belongings also fell victim to the flames. The smoke filled the entire flat, leaving the walls blackened.
After fully extinguishing the fire, the fire department conducted cooling operations. Officials stated that a detailed investigation into the cause of the incident is underway, along with an assessment of the damages.
