Kota, August 10: A tragic incident unfolded in Kota when a 16-year-old student took his own life after his father prohibited him from playing games on his mobile phone. Mayank Nagar, a class 11 student, ingested poison at his home in the Hanuman Nagar area on Sunday night. His family rushed him to a private hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries the following morning.
Following the death of their only son, Mayank’s father, Chauthmal Nagar, experienced a health crisis. According to the family, Mayank frequently spent time on his mobile device. Chauthmal recounted that on Sunday, while the family was at home, they noticed Mayank engrossed in a game.
When they asked him to stop playing, he refused. In a moment of frustration, Chauthmal confiscated the phone. Shortly after, Mayank consumed poison. Chauthmal expressed disbelief, stating he never imagined that taking away the phone would lead to such a tragic outcome.
Mayank’s uncle, Sant Ram, reported that the boy’s condition deteriorated suddenly, causing him to collapse. When questioned by family members, Mayank revealed that he had ingested poison.
Initially, the family declined to allow an autopsy following Mayank’s death. However, police officials persuaded them, leading to an autopsy at the New Medical College Hospital on Monday morning. The body was subsequently returned to the family.
The family shared that Chauthmal works as a painter and has a heart condition. The news of his son’s death severely impacted his health. They noted that Mayank was their only child, and his mother is devastated.
Baldev Ram, the SHO of Dada Bari police station, confirmed that the family was initially resistant to the autopsy but agreed after discussions. The police have registered a case based on the family’s complaint and have commenced an investigation. This incident has left both the family and the local community in deep shock.
