Visakhapatnam, February 8: A tragic accident in the Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh on Sunday resulted in the deaths of two individuals and left five others injured.
According to police reports, the incident occurred on the national highway near Palavalasa in the Nandigama mandal. A car traveling from Sonpur in Odisha to Visakhapatnam collided with a parked van.
The crash happened while a patient named Balayya was being transported by his family for medical treatment from Sonpur to Visakhapatnam. Both Balayya and another passenger lost their lives in the accident. The five injured individuals were taken to the government hospital in Tekkalik. One of the injured is in critical condition and has been referred to Srikakulam for further treatment. Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation.
In a separate incident, nine passengers were injured in a head-on collision between an RTC bus and a truck in the Sri Sathya Sai district of Andhra Pradesh. This accident occurred on the national highway near Guttur in the Penukonda mandal. The APSRTC bus was en route from Hindupur to Dharmapuram when it was struck by a truck traveling to Bengaluru.
All injured passengers were admitted to the government hospital in Penukonda. The bus conductor, who sustained serious injuries, was given first aid at the Penukonda hospital before being transferred to Anantapur.
Upon learning of the accident, the Minister for Welfare of Backward Classes, S. Savita, visited the Penukonda hospital to meet with the injured. She instructed hospital officials to ensure the best possible treatment for them.
Earlier, on Saturday night, a car caught fire in Vijayawada, but fortunately, there were no casualties. According to police, the fire broke out unexpectedly near the Anjaneyaswamy temple shortly after midnight. Firefighters arrived promptly after being alerted by passersby and extinguished the flames.
