Jaisalmer, October 14 (Daily Kiran): A private passenger bus traveling from Jaisalmer to Jodhpur caught fire on Tuesday afternoon, leaving over 15 people injured and at least 10 to 12 feared dead. The incident occurred near Thaiyat village, just outside Jaisalmer, creating panic among passengers as the flames spread rapidly.
According to officials, the bus was carrying 57 passengers when smoke suddenly started rising from its rear portion around 3 PM. Within minutes, the entire vehicle was engulfed in flames. In a desperate attempt to save their lives, several passengers jumped from the moving bus.
Assistant Fire Officer of the Municipal Council, Krishnapal Singh Rathore, said preliminary reports suggest that 10 to 12 people may have died due to severe burns. Nine of the injured have been referred to Jodhpur for treatment, while others are being admitted to Jaisalmer’s Jawahir Government Hospital.
Upon receiving information, local villagers and passersby rushed to the spot to assist in rescue operations. Fire tenders and police teams soon arrived and brought the situation under control. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
In a statement, the Jaisalmer District Administration confirmed the tragic incident and said immediate relief and rescue efforts were launched. District Collector Pratap Singh directed officials to ensure prompt medical aid and support for the affected passengers.
